Reauthorization is Moving Forward

A bill has been introduced called The Access to Nutritious Meals for Young Children. This bill would provide much needed resources for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) by:

  • increasing the administrative reimbursement rate and protecting this rate from a negative cost of living adjustment like we saw this year;
  • allowing the option of a third meal service, typically a snack or supper;
  • improving the area eligibility test for low-income neighborhoods; and
  • streamlining paperwork.

At CCNI, we believe that family child care is essential to the financial health of our country by keeping young families working. Industrialized countries across the ocean promote quality care by subsidizing salaries of caregivers. The US values our children through the Child and Adult Care Food Program. This nutrition program helps subsidize caregivers by reimbursing providers directly for the meals and snacks they serve the children. Besides the financial help, which keeps care costs affordable and allows families productive influences in our economy, the program improved quality in caregivers by offering oversight and training. Providers who use the program are monitored, trained, given early childhood resources and are aided one-on-one in program use. That support mentors quality.

If providers/families have strong feelings about how the Child and Adult Care Food Program is working for them, they should contact their US Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and local US House of Representative Members (these can easily be found by a search on the browser).
